a note about our publishing policies

As more and more authors are finding their way to Matrika Press, we find ourselves answering a variety of questions about who we are, what kinds of books we will publish, and who qualifies to be one of our authors.

As a publishing house, Matrika Press founds its roots in the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition.

Our goal is publish stories and works that would otherwise remain untold.

We strive to compliment the two existing UU publishing houses Skinner House Books and Beacon Press, by providing independent publishing services to authors who may not fit into the categories available through Skinner House Books and Beacon Press.  Also, Matrika Press wishes to support skilled authors and important works that because of theme, funding, and any number of other reasons are turned away from these wonderful publishing houses.

Our authors come from many backgrounds, and their works may be non-fiction or fiction.  Essentially our criteria is this:

  • Are you a Unitarian Universalist? If so, whether your work is fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose, meditations or rituals, self-help or memoirs, Matrika Press would be honored to publish your work.

We have authors coming to us who have been published in the past, yet that work is now out-of-print and are looking to us to resurrect their manuscripts to be enjoyed by future generations.

We have congregations and UU Groups partnering with Matrika Press to create anthologies and also history books.  Both used as fundraisers in addition to preserving their rich heritage.  A wonderful example of this is The Sophia Anthology Series, a collaboration between UU Women and Religion and Matrika Press.

Independent UU Publishers

While we do not want to loose the opportunity to publish Your Book, we do want to make certain you select the publisher that will best suit your work.

Here are some links to Skinner House Books and Beacon Press:

Skinner House Books has an on-going Submission Page that details what books they are currently in the process of curating.  We encourage you to take a look:

They also have a wonderful inSpirit Series worth knowing about:

Beacon Press releases a new catalogue each season featuring current titles.  It is wise to become familiar with the types of works they publish to see if your manuscript may be a fit:

It is good to note that Beacon Press  does not accept new poetry, fiction, or self-help books at this time, but they do have information about they types of manuscripts they will consider:

Matrika Press publishes stories and works that would otherwise remain untold.  Also, we resurrect out-of-print manuscripts to ensure our historical works remain accessible.

We have exciting news to share about a new anthology series we are co-creating with Unitarian Universalist Women and Religion:

The Sophia Anthology Series!

This Anthology Series will be part of an ongoing and ever-expanding fundraising initiative for UU Women and Religion.

Every woman who donates $100 towards membership &/or support of UUWR shall submit one entry to The Sophia Anthology Series. Matrika Press will publish a new edition of this series each time we collect 30 submissions.  Join us in this revolutionary and time honored way of sharing our stories with one another while at the same time enabling UUWR to generate operating capital towards its continued service.

Groups and Organizations may also support these publications by purchasing ads to go in the back of the anthologies.

We will have links posted mid-February to begin submission enrollments.

Happy New Year!!

Matrika Press wishes to take this time to reflect on the past year as we launched optimistically into our endeavor of independent publishing.

This is a ministry of the heart, and as such 2016 found us often in gratitude as the exact perfect people crossed paths with us, and we with them.  Authors, editors, curators and collaborators each stepped into this adventure with us, and for this we are grateful.

We thank especially our first authors, who believed in our mission as much as we do to take our UU Values and share them with the world!  As a result we published six books in our first few months of operations in the autumn-time and have a dozen more authors’ books being assembled as we write this post.

Looking towards 2017 we see a year filled with hope, filled with creative expression, filled with sharing wonderful works with the world.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Therese’s Dream – Maine to Darfur: A Doctor’s Story, chronicles Dr. David Austin’s time with Doctors Without Borders and illustrates the common humanity of peoples around the world.  Dr. Austin is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist who has dedicated his life to healing and service.                                                                      http://MatrikaPress.com/dr-david-austin/

Where the Sky has No Stars  is a poetry anthology by Wesley Burton His contemplative and imaginative poetry entices readers to face moments of transition. His words explore the inner depths of the psyche, the healing power of nature, and the soul’s resilience to move forward out of darkness.                 http://MatrikaPress.com/wesley-burton/

She Stood There  is a poem that has been read during blessingways and memorials, as well as for quiet contemplation and meditation.  For three decades it has touched hearts and minds as individuals reflect on decisions made when life presents a crossroads, transition, choices and change.

This is a single poem arranged in a pocket-size book (4×6).

It is the first in our series: A Pocketful book by Matrika Press.

Intimate Insights to Revolutionizing Intimacy

A Pocketful of Intimate Insights

This book is an invitation to open your heart to a profound state of relating, free your mind of the emotional burdens and awaken your senses to life with this pocket-sized (4×6) book of quotes from“Revolutionizing Intimacy” – A Guide to Creating Profound Relationships in The Bedroom and The Boardroom to be released in 2017.

“This boundless form of intimacy is like an infinite garden without walls or borders.  It is priceless material and wisdom to cultivate, cherish, and nourish.”  – Tziporah Kingsbury, Soulful Relating Institute

The Wandering Host

Fourth Source Explorations

Two of our focuses at Matrika Press are to preserve texts and thoughts of our ancestors, and to create publications that share the values and principles of Unitarian Universalism. This allegorical story by David Starr Jordan is a tale about the search for spiritual meaning.  Symbolic of Jesus Christ’s ministry, it succinctly embodies our Christian heritage and the fourth of the six sources we draw our faith from, namely that which calls us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves.

The Way of Power:

Seventh Principle Studies & First Source Explorations

The work contained within this manuscript was penned by Lily Adams Beck circa 1928 and edited in 2016 by “Twinkle” Marie Manning.  This non-fiction work chronicles Beck’s experiences exploring the Occult.  Matrika Press is proud to preserve this work as it is demonstrative of the transcending mystery and wonder affirmed in all cultures as well as the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. The Way of Power is beneficial to all who seek confirmation of the forces which create and uphold life.
